The fundamentals of strategy development

Intermediate | Duration: 53:00

Description

The course looks at the 6-Aspect Model of Strategic Context (i.e., environment, strategy, structure, routines, people, and culture) and its use in developing strategy. Other strategy concepts are introduced to demonstrate how the 6AMSC provides context for strategic planning efforts – i.e., the intersection and importance of Accounting & Finance, People Management & Leadership, Operations and Marketing within strategy formulation. The session provides hands-on experience with the overall framework and some of the tools that are used to gather relevant data, formulate strategy, and tell the strategic story and align stakeholders with strategic goals. The agenda includes 4 segments: 1. considering strategic context (tool: the AMSC framework), 2. strategic environment (tool: PESTLED), 3. corporate strategy (tool: Crack the Case), and 4. execution (tool: Telling the Story) Underlying the session is a high-level representative case that provides context for discussing and using the tools following the session. The course is given at MBA and Master Programs such as the University of Alberta’s Graduate Management Consulting Assocation.
